Reformer Pilates!

A modern approach to a traditional form of exercise that promotes core and pelvic strength, flexibility, and provides you with a full-body workout, focusing on the goals set out to make it a unique and individualised experience.

To ensure best outcomes, your session will be pre-planned and your background will be discussed prior to your first Pilates appointment. We feel that this is important when it comes to achieving individuality, and everything that we do, is results driven.

What is Reformer Pilates?

Quite simply, Pilates, but carried out using a Reformer machine, often referred to as a carriage, a sliding platform which provides varying levels of resistance and/or assistance. It’s engineered approach utilises springs, making this form of exercise the most individualised but also most effective.

Pilates FAQs

Is pilates good for weight loss?

Pilates does not specifically focus on weight loss. It focuses on improving flexibility, core stability, and general strength.

Whilst we wouldn’t advise pilates in isolation for weight loss, it certainly helps when it comes to toning and improving tissue quality.

Reformer pilates is carried out on a sliding carriage, whereas mat pilates is on the floor.

The difference. Reformer pilates can be easily adapted to make an exercise easier or harder, whilst mat pilates doesn’t present with as many variations of a single exercise.

For those who experience lower back pain, reformer is preferable given the nature of the lying position.

Regardless of type, both focus on flexibility, joint mobility, core stability, pelvic floor strengthening and general fitness.

Our pilates sessions are led by our Women’s health and senior MSK physiotherapy Sophie.

She initially trained as a physiotherapist before exploring the world of motorsport. After which she has developed a keen interest in pilates, reformer pilates and pilates pre and post natal.

Yes, absolutely, Reformer pilates will aim to work on building strength, toning and improving tissue quality.
