The Mummy MOT Winchester
Give your body the attention it deserves post-pregnancy!
We provide Mummy MOT for women who are at least 6 weeks postpartum in Winchester. After having a baby, up to 50% of all women experience weakness or dysfunction of their abdominals and pelvic floor muscles. As a result, those suffering weakness and/or dysfunction report back and pelvic girdle pain, urinary incontinence, ‘tummy gap’ and more… What’s more, these symptoms don’t always present themselves immediately and can take several months or even years to present.
Mummy MOT is a fully certified, evidence-based screening of your pelvic health post-partum. Regardless of vaginal delivery or C-section, Sophie will gain insight into your past and present symptoms, before carrying out an individualised assessment, which includes an internal pelvic examination (you can opt out of this part of the assessment if you choose).
Each and every client is different and therefore treatment is delivered unique to your needs and expectations. You may be looking for symptom relief, prevention of future pelvic health problems, or even looking to run a half marathon again… no goal is too big or too small.
Sophie is not only a certified Mummy MOT specialist, but she is also a Women’s Health Physiotherapist and Reformer Pilates Instructor. She provides a clinical approach to her care and will often encourage her clients to incorporate a form of Pilates into their recovery, something that is well documented when it comes to core, glute, and pelvic floor strength and improved function.
What happens during a Mummy MOT appointment?
- A full, standard MSK screening, observing the way your body moves including lumbar spine, hips and other important areas beyond just your pelvis!
- An assessment of your abdominal strength… what’s overactive and/or underactive?
- Pelvic floor examination including an internal vaginal assessment to understand the mechanics of your pelvic function (you can opt out of this part of the assessment if you choose)
- An individualised post-natal recovery plan… based around your chosen goals
- Further treatment options will be discussed at your first appointment, to see whether we can support and accelerate your recovery beyond home exercise
When should I consider a Mummy MOT appointment?
- Guidelines suggest that at 6 weeks post-partum, you are ready to kick start your pelvic health recovery. However, it is never too late, so if you are experiencing symptoms or would now like to explore your pelvic health further, then book an appointment to discuss your needs
Will I have to remove clothing as part of the appointment?
- As standard, the Mummy MOT includes an internal vaginal assessment, therefore you would be asked to remove the bottom half of your clothing. However, if you opt out of this part of the assessment, then you would not be required to remove any clothing
