Women's Health Physio Services

We offer tailored women’s health physio services in Winchester, designed to meet the unique needs of women of all ages. Women’s Health is an umbrella term for a number of complaints including urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, changes in bladder frequency, or painful intercourse. Whether you are suffering pain and/or other symptoms during pregnancy, menopause or with daily life, Sophie is able to utilise her specialist knowledge in a complex area to guide you back to a fully functioning, pain-free life.

What is the difference between a ‘normal’ physio appointment and Women’s Health appointment?

Pelvic pain and incontinence, to name a few, are not your average musculoskeletal complaint. They require expert knowledge of the female anatomy and therefore, a specialist physiotherapist is vital when it comes to accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

Furthermore, Sophie is able to explore the strength, function, and control of your pelvic floor, often a key contributor to your symptoms. Sophie turns a difficult conversation into an easy, free flowing discussion to guide your recovery…

What is urinary incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is a common concern in the clinic, which is the leakage of urine, categorised into…

  1. Stress Incontinence; laughing, coughing, and running
  2. Urge Incontinence; a sudden need to rush to the loo
  3. Overflow Incontinence; not emptying the bladder fully

Although not often spoken about, this is common, and Sophie will be able to explore the cause and map out an appropriate treatment plan. Don’t just assume it’s normal.

What can I expect from my Women’s Health appointment?

Our Women’s Heath appointments are 60-minutes, during which you will work with Sophie to understand the diagnosis, cause and treatment required to support your goals and needs.

Your appointment will include two distinct components, the first being a discussion of your history including bladder and bowel function, sexual history and obstetric and gynecological history.

Following this, Sophie will go through a comprehensive physical examination, this is where she will begin to understand how your body moves, where your strengths and weaknesses lie, and the overall function of your health. If your symptoms suggest the need for an internal vaginal examination, Sophie will assess your pelvic floor, strength, and its ability to contract and relax.

Your treatment plan will then be tailored to you including advice and education, pelvic floor exercises, and a range of other treatment modalities that we have here in the clinic.
